Residents of Owelle Aja Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area have staged a peaceful protest over what they described as the poor performance of the contractor handling the about one-point-two-kilometer road awarded by the Anambra State Government.

According to the protesters, the contractor handling the project, Stafaunuti Stock Hapel Limited, seems to have abandoned the road project for months now, thereby making life unbearable for the people and residents of the area.

The protesters, who expressed gratitude to the Anambra State Government for awarding the construction of the road, however expressed dismay over its seeming abandonment and called on the government to order the contracting firm handling the project back to site.

The protest, which started at the beginning of the road to where it is supposed to terminate, saw protesters carrying placards with various inscriptions such as “Stafaunuti company come back to site and continue your job to justify your payment” among others.

Speaking to the ABS, the Chairman of Owelle Aja Obosi, Chief Richard Ofoekwe, regretted that the contracting firm handling the project has done more harm than good because according to him, the area has become worse as the contractor excavated the road without proper finishing, which he said made the people of the area to continue to pass through many challenges.

In separate interviews, the Vice chairman of the area, Chief Uche Otora, and the Works Committee Chairman, Chief James Ekeh, regretted that due to the abandoned road project, two kids were swept by rain because of the excavation on the road without proper channeling of flood.

Others who spoke during the protest, including a stakeholder, Chief Chukwuma Okoye, Woman leader of the All progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the area, Mrs Ebelechukwu Ezeh, decried the volume of flood in the area due the non-completion of the road, which they said is causing havoc in the area housing many schools, churches, industries, adding that majority of them have been submerged by erosion, as the road is now a death trap.
