In order not to be in the dilemma of choosing a career path not based on personal assessment and abilities, students of Kabe College, Amawbia have been sensitized to choose future careers based on their abilities, skills and motivations.

The career day presentation, organized by the Rotary Club of Sports City Amawbia , was to help students make better decisions as it concerns choosing a career path for the future and not make mistakes, which often leads to uncertainty and depression due to the burden of unemployment and making a headway in life.

The programme was also aimed at letting the students be aware of what some professional careers require in terms of subject combinations and institutions that offer study on such professions.

The President, Rotary Club of Amawbia Sports City, Reverend Jude Nwokike noted that it is important to teach the young ones how to make career choices devoid of influence to avoid making regrettable mistakes in their life and future.

In his remark during the programme, Dr. Dennis Ekemezie, a past Rotary Assistant Governor, explained that students should be determined for self-actualization, starting by knowing who they are, their abilities and setting achievable goals for themselves, emphasizing that education can never be less important, as it gives one a lot of leverage in life.

Dr Ekemezie, who explained that the programme was part of Rotary’s intervention in seven key areas, including education, health, peace building, environment and conflict resolution amongst others, went on to advise the students not to have divided attention given the current era of internet and social media, but rather stay focused on their chosen career paths.

In her lecture, Dr. Ngozi Okolo of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, informed the students not to choose a career based on the decision of following another or doing what others are doing but to most importantly have a self-assessment of their abilities and follow-up by studying courses that enhances their knowledge and potential to be employable or become employers of labour.

Some student who spoke to the ABS during the event including, Mr. Redeem Aimiuwu said that it is a privilege to gain the knowledge being passed on to them, as it has enlightened them on how best to choose a career and thanked the Rotary club for the gesture, while Miss Christabel Aninobi said that the knowledge she gained was impactful and would help enlighten others.

The programme featured a question-and-answer session as well as presentation of exercise books to the students by Rotary Club of Amawbia Sports City.
