Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has said that his administration will only borrow to finance projects that have the capacity to pay back by itself.

 

Governor Soludo stated this while fielding questions from Ndi Anambra during his quarterly ABS Phone-in program called; “Chat With Mr. Governor” with the theme, “Stewardship On Disruptive Change”.

 

The Governor recalled that last year, Anambra State House of Assembly approved for his administration to borrow one hundred billion naira, to which he has not yet borrowed one kobo.

 

He explained that it is so because the cost of servicing the loan is high and pointed out that as a way of prudently managing resources, his administration has been squeezing itself, bargaining contracts to the barest minimum, to get maximum value for money.

 

Professor Soludo revealed that his government is working on a law targeted against touting in the state and how to get ARTMA to remain professional, stressing that his administration has zero tolerance for touting and all forms of illegality.

 

He noted that the government will mark roads in Anambra, to differentiate red zones from free zones, directing that henceforth, ARTMA officials should not charge more than five thousand Naira for traffic offences until the markings are complete.

 

Speaking on the forthcoming Anambra Investment Summit scheduled to hold on Thursday, 7th September, 2023, the Governor said that the event will host investors from the world who are willing to invest in the state in the areas of power plant, factories among others, pointing out that agreements will be signed with companies who have shown interest to invest in the state.

 

He spoke on sundry issues including computerization of Anambra land registry, palliatives to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy, efforts targeted at vulnerable persons with disabilities, efforts in security, agriculture, health, the Monday sit-at-home, among others, stressing that civil servants will be monitored with attendance registers to ensure that they go to work.

 

The Governor also said that schools and banks in Anambra have commenced Monday classes and services

 

He assured that the over three hundred and forty kilometers of roads under construction across the state will be completed.
