The Anglican Bishop Diocese of Amichi, Right Reverend Ephraim Ikeakor has called on the federal government to put sustainable measures in place to drastically reduce the negative impact of oil subsidy removal on Nigerians.

 

Bishop Ikeakor who made the call while presenting his bishop’s charge to the 3rd Session of the Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Amichi held at St. Philip’s Anglican Church Eziama, Amichi, Nnewi South L.G.A, stated that there is no responsible government that will remove subsidy without first putting in place pragmatic measures to cushion the effects of such action.

The bishop also commended the governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo for his visible efforts and achievements within this one year, especially in the area of security, and road construction and thanked the Governor for decrying the relapse to idolatry by some youths and adults in Anambra State, praying that the Almighty God will grant him His grace and wisdom to make Anambra State the Dubai of Africa as he promised during his electioneering campaign.

On the theme of the synod” Clearing the Identity Crisis Who Actually is a Christian?” Bishop Ikeakor stated that the Identity Crisis in Christianity is very glaring, disturbing and challenging, adding that the fruit bearing Christian is better than eloquent sermon preaching Christian, adding that the fruit of the Holy spirit is the Identity of a true Christian .

 

Also speaking, the Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Dr. Alexander Ibezim who spoke on behalf of other Bishops commended the Amichi Diocese for coming up with a new thing every year and encouraged Bishop Ikeakor in his achievements and Evangelical work in the area.

He advised the Diocese to uphold maintenance culture of the costly equipment installed at the Diocesan hospital and supported Bishop Ikeakor’s programme on fight against idolatry among youths.

 

The host Vicar, Venerable Da Nonyelum and the chairman Synod Local Organizing Committee, Sir. Benjamin Umeojiaku thanked God for the success of the synod and for the feat God has used Bishop Ikeakor to achieve in the Diocese, describing him as a blessing to Amichi community and beyond.

On his part, one of the members of the Diocese who is also the Transition Committee Chairman for Nnewi South, Mr Ikenna Aniagbaoso said he was overwhelmed by the level of both spiritual and physical development in the Diocese especially at the Diocesan Hospital, School of Nursing Sciences and School of Midwifery of the Diocese.

 

Over twenty Bishops from across the country including Bishop Ndubisi Obi of Nnewi Diocese and Bishop Johnson Ekwe of Diocese of Niger West, members of the clergy and other dignitaries attended the Synod.
