Governor Chukwuma Soludo has called for a stronger partnership with the Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association, ASMATA to develop the state.
Governor Soludo made the call in Oba Idemili South Local Government Area, at the occasion of Solidarity rally organized by the group in support of APGA and Governor Soludo led administration.
The event brought together leaders and caretaker committees of all the markets in Anambra, as well as other critical stakeholders and government functionaries including the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North local government area, Engineer Chris Obiorah.
Addressing the traders, Governor Soludo noted that Anambra’s economy is domiciled in the markets and commended them for their support and cooperation so far and emphasized the need for stronger partnership on revenue generation, as Anambra markets need to be well planned for them to grow better and insisted that parking spaces must be provided in all the markets as people cannot shop without parking their vehicles.
The Governor revealed that the intention of the government is to modernize Anambra markets, adding that plans are underway to design modern markets with suitable facilities including substantive firefighting stations and equipment.
He said that market leaders should play a major role in planning the markets and decried the decline in commercial activities in the state due to poor planning of the markets.
The Governor also said that keeping the markets clean should be part of the priorities and revealed that the state is about to engage five thousand people that will see to the cleaning of Anambra roads and streets under operation Clean and Green Anambra initiative.
The President General of Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association ASMATA, Chief Humphrey Anuna who commended Governor Soludo for his efforts in sanitizing the markets promised their unflinching support to the state government.
Chief Anuna assured to intensify efforts in maintaining cleanliness in all the markets and encouraged the Governor to continue his good works for the good of the State.
