The Anambra state Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim has called on warring communities in the state to sheath their sword and give peace a chance for the actualization of the developmental agenda of the Professor Chukwuma Soludo led administration.
The Deputy Governor made the call during a peace talk with Omor and Anaku communities, both in Ayamelum Local Government Area, over an age long boundary dispute which has claimed many lives and property.
Dr Ibezim who emphasized on the need for both communities to embrace peace, said that it is high time they allowed peace to reign as nothing good comes out of violence.
Deputy Governor Ibezim restated the commitment of the Professor Soludo led administration towards restoring peace in communities across the state, noting that actualization of a peaceful state will help to accelerate development across Anambra.
Contributing, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi reminded the communities of the need to see peace as the way forward, to avert more loss of lives and property.
During the visit, Omor community alleged that in the recent crisis, it was Anaku that attacked them first, while ABS observed that a lot of property were lost to the crisis, as damaged houses, vehicles, among others were seen in the communities.
Present during the meeting were the state Commissioner for Petroleum, Barrister Tony Ifeanya, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ayamelum Council Area, Mr Livinus Onyenwe, the President General of Anaku, Mr Friday Nwuba, past and current Presidents General of Omor community, Mr Emeka Chuba, Chief Johnson Chukwuebuka, among others.
