Chief Emma Ojukwu has emerged the new President General of Alor People’s Convention.
His election which brought to an end the protracted leadership crisis in the Community was made possible when other interest groups stepped down for him, making him an unopposed candidate.
Other members of the new executive are Barrister Ngozi Udodi, Legal Adviser, Nze Martin Udoagwa, Public Relation Officer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ezika, Provost 1, and Mr. Osita Okeide, Provost ll.
Others are, Mr. Ubabike Emecheta, Secretary, Martin Akpugo, Assistant Secretary, Chief Ifeanyi Egwuonwu, Financial Secretary, while Mr. Afam Nwudo is the Treasurer.
The election which took place at the town hall Square Alor was witnessed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South, Mrs. Amaka Obi, Presidents General from various communities, Alor indigenes both at home and in the diaspora as they converged on the square to select a new set of executive members that will pilot the affairs of the town union for the next three years.
The election which commenced with the accreditation of delegates, was observed by the officials of Anambra State government through the electoral committee chairman led by the President, Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) Barrister Titus Akpudo.
The decision to install new President General for the community was reached following a motion moved during a town hall meeting of the community to appraise the activities of Alor towards bringing lasting peace, solution and development to the community.
In his message, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige said that he is committed to peace to reign in the community and urged Ndi Alor to accept the outcome of the election, and described Chief Ojukwu as one who will change the story of the community for good.
On his part, the Traditional Ruler of Alor Community, Igwe Mac Anthony Okonkwo, said that the 1992 constitution of the Community, as amended in 2011 states that the Igwe is the patron of the convention at the town hall and acknowledged the conduct of the election as free, fair and credible and prayed for peace and progress in Alor.
Igwe Okonkwo commended Governor Soludo whom he said has come to bring solution to the problems in Anambra State.
During the swearing in of the Executive members , the people of Alor were seen chanting songs of praise to God for a peaceful election while the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Barrister Akpudo said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is passionate for peace and stability to return to all communities in the State and urged the new executive to work for the peace and development of the community.
Also Speaking, The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Mrs. Obi who expressed satisfaction with success of the election, said that Alor is known for uniqueness, and prayed that God will continue to restore sanity, unity and peace to Alor community.
Addressing the people before the election, the immediate past President-General of the town, Mr. Uzoma Igbonwa thanked the people for the privilege afforded him and his executive to serve the town and expressed the hope that the new executive will consolidate on the achievements already recorded.
In his appreciation speech shortly after the election, the new President-General, Chief Ojukwu who thanked the people for the opportunity to serve, assured of running an open-door policy.
Meanwhile, the Alor Electoral Committee has stated that election for the other vacant seats of the new executive would be conducted in two weeks time.
