Anambra State chapter of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts WorkersUnion, RATTAWU, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, in collaboration with Society for Equity, Justice, Unity and Peace, SEJUP, and Bring It On Africa, have concluded arrangement to organize the maiden edition of Mace Debate in Anambra state on the first and second February, 2023.

 

At a joint press briefing held at the Anambra Broadcasting Service Corporate Headquarters in Awka.

 

The Anambra Mace Debate 2023, which is to be held at the Emmaus House Awka, is for Senatorial and Federal House of Representatives candidates from Anambra State, who are contesting in the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking at event , the state Chairman of RATTAWU, Comrade Maureenstone Enujioke said the event will feature candidates of all political parties, and will be the first of its kind in South East zone and Nigeria in general, even as she encouraged residents of the state to follow-up the programme through radio, television and online channels for live streaming.

 

Contributing, the state Chairman of NUJ, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, explained that the event is designed in a way to help the general public assess party candidates and make choices during the 2023 general elections.

 

He further explained that during the debate, questions on how the candidates will deliver on their mandates will be thrown to them by Journalists from across the state, while the public will be able to make informed choices during the elections.

On their parts, the General Manager of SEJUP, Dr. Emma Ezenwaji, and President of Bring It On Africa, Mr. Chigbo Nweke, said they decided to partner NUJ and RATTAWU on the all-important event in the interest of the masses, regretting that majority of those representing the masses in political positions are incompetent and after their own personal interests, an act they said must end for the betterment of the society.

 

South East Vice Chairman of RATTAWU, Prince Emeka Kalu, explained that the groups decided to combine efforts to set pace in Southeast and Nigeria, as well as contribute in enthroning good leadership in the country through the programme , expressing hope that the event will yield desired result at the end.

 

Earlier, the team paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, who commended them for coming up with idea for such event, which he noted will help in electing competent leaders in the forthcoming general elections, and assured of total support of the ABS in the areas of comprehensive coverage and reporting of the debate.
