The Ozioma Odinani Annual Lecture Series in Igbo Language titled “Ka Anyi Tuo Alo 2022”, has been held with a call on Ndigbo to treasure and hold their customs and traditions in high esteem.

 

The lecture series aimed at promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Ndigbo, attracted participants from Igbo states in Nigeria.

The event commenced with the ritual of breaking of kolanut by the chairman of the occasion, Chief Chinedu Okafor.

 

In his opening comments, the organizer of the event, Chief File Ugboaja, explained that the gathering was to brainstorm on ways to promote Igbo customs and traditions because people now treat them with disdain.

He noted that globally progressive societies are those that speak their languages and preserve their customs and traditions.

 

Chief Ugboaja disclosed that the group, Ozioma Odinani has several branches through which they explain to Ndigbo their customs and traditions which they should be proud of .

Presenting the first lecture titled “Impact of Modern Legal System on Omenani and Odinani Ndigbo”, a resource person, Barrister Pius Nnoli, said prior to colonialism, there was no dichotomy between crime and morality in typical Igbo communities as every infraction of Odinani was abomination and was penalized by traditional law enforcement agencies.

 

For the second lecture titled,” Security and Omenani Igbo”, a resource person, Chief Onyebuchi Izuegbu, pointed out that Odinani is the spiritual power and the entirety of the make-up of the Igbo person urging Ndigbo to abhor evil so as to be free from sufferings.

 

In his good will message, the Managing Director, Anambra Broadcasting Service, Sir Chido Obidiegwu represented by Mrs Ebele Uzoegbo, mentioned several programmes anchored by ABS to promote Igbo traditions and said that a joint effort of Ndigbo will go a long way in preserving Igbo language.

The Managing Director of National Light Newspapers, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, applauded the organizers of the event for the sustainability of the lecture series which he said started four years ago, urging Ndigbo to tell their story as according to him, an untold story is a lost story.
