According to the book of Ecclesiastics chapter three verse One, there is time for everything that happens on earth. Hence, there is time to be born and a time to die. This simply defines the passing unto glory of Madam Josephine Ekedunma Chinwuba (Ojiefi) alias Asamma, nee Eze, at the age of ninety-three.

 

Ojiefi Chinwuba was born into the family of Chief Ezeudu and Mrs Ugboaku Nweze of Umuanagbogu clan in Umudioka Village Awka and later got Married to the late Chief Joseph Onwuegbune Chinwuba of Umuogbu village also in Awka.

 

Ojiefi was born at a time when education was regarded a luxury. So, she was not privileged to receive formal education because girl’s child education was considered unprofitable economically.

 

Immediately after her marriage to her heart-rob, Asamma engaged in trading dealing on various food stuff to earn income to help contribute her quota to the upkeep of her family.

 

The manner with which Asamma related with her husband, her husband’s siblings, and others around her made her the cynosure of all eyes as many women began to see her as a role model. Despite her beauty, she remained humble, respectful, cheerful and accommodating seeing everybody as one.

 

When her husband died on December 23, 1997, she took the bull by the horns and became the Medic of the family by taking full responsibilities.

 

Madam Chinwuba was a disciplinarian, a mobilizer and grassroots woman leader. She always made out time to visit her maternal home at Umuogbu, which makes her relationship with them very cordial to the extent that they saw her as a complete woman and their mirror and nicknamed her “Manari”.

 

 

 

After training her children , she enrolled for a vocational education in Bradenton, Florida in the United States of America to enable her communicate in English.

 

Ojiefi Josephine, stayed with her children and grandchildren in the United States of America for about eight years fostering a bond with them which made them to be endeared to her. Upon return to Nigeria, she started taking care of the family compound and always formed the habit of visiting her only surviving sibling.

 

Her children provided her with all the necessary support she needed to have an easy life. One of which was provision of a personal driver to take care of her movements especially to church activities as she always loved going for morning prayers and group meetings at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka.

 

Madam Josephine Ekedunma Chinwuba was a staunch member of Saint Peter’s Zone in the cathedral, Women’s Guild and other organizations in the church and larger society. She always stayed with her hymn book, “Ekpere na Abu”, reciting series of motivational hymns and also reading some Bible passages to create a serious bond with her maker.

 

On the 4th of June this year, she asked her son, Chief Fredrick Chinwuba (Alupuo) to take her to her father’s compound which made Alupuo to express shocked over the request knowing that she had been house bound for years. The request was granted but regrettably on getting to her father’s compound it was under lock and key with no one available . Despite that she was happy that her request was granted.

 

Ten days later, her daughter Julie visited her from Florida and both of them were having discussions at the living room. At some point she stood up, went to the rest room. After washing her hands, she left for her bedroom, cleaned her face, laid on her bed and passed on.

 

She is survived by five children, Chura, Edith, Fred, Julie and Stella, daughters in law, sons in law, grand-daughters and grandsons.

 

Service of songs holds today Thursday 29th September at her residence No 7 Alpha lane Amikwo Layout, Awka by 4pm while tomorrow Friday her body will leave the Mortuary by 7:30am for a stop at her ancestral home in Umudioka, village Awka between 9 and 10am. The funeral service to be officiated by the Archbishop,  Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim PhD will take place at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith Awka by ten o’clock in the morning to be followed by interment at her compoun

 

On Saturday 1st October 2022, it will be a reception for families, in-laws and friends at Emmaus Hall by Arthur Eze Avenue beginning from 11am , while an outing and thanksgiving service will be on Sunday 2nd October 2022 at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka.
