The administrative headquarters of the Aguata Diocese of the Anglican Communion will temporarily relocate From Ekwulobia to Nanka, for the second session of the sixth synod of the Diocese which commences on Wednesday 25th May 2022.
The four day synod which has it’s theme as “Divine principles of transformation Leadership” is being hosted by Nanka Anglican community at Saint James Parish the Headquarters of Nanka Archdeaconry. The theme is chosen by the president of the synod, Right Reverend Samuel Chukwudi Ezeofor JP PhD, to draw the minds of the faithful to what is expected of them to bring about the needed change and transformation in the society as true children of God.
Synod is the highest decision making body of the Diocese where far reaching measures aimed at bringing the needed turn around and development are taken, laws governing the Diocese are made while those laws that seems to be obsolete are either repealed or amended.
According to the clerical Synod secretary of Aguata Diocese, Reverend Canon Decency Chiedozie Chine, Wednesday 25th May is the arrival and registration of delegates at the synod venue by 2pm to be followed by opening service and courtesy call on the traditional Ruler of Nanka, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo who is also the Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area traditional Rulers council. Friday 27th May is the presentation and launching of the Bishop’s charge by 10am while Saturday 28th May is the recognition of heroes of faith.
The synod will come to it’s crescendo on Sunday 29th May with a special Thanksgiving service, cutting of the cake and launching of development fund by 9am. The Anglican Bishop of Enugu North Diocese, Right Reverend Sostenance Eze is the synod guest preacher.
Since it’s inauguration, Aguata Diocese has recorded series of achievements especially in the areas of education, healthcare delivery, evangelism, human capital development and capacity building among others. The pioneer Bishop, Most Reverend Christian Efobi kick started the chain of development in the Diocese which have been consolidated by the incumbent Bishop Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor.
In terms of educational development, Aguata Diocese can boast of All Saints Seminary, Ekwulobia, Saint Mary the Virgin Convent Ufuma, and Saint Catherine’s Comprehensive College, Nanka.
Under Hospital Management, Aguata Diocese has Diocesan Hospital at Igboukwu and Umunze with an annex at Ogbunka which Bishop Ezeofor renovated, refurbished and equipped for efficient service delivery.
As part of his desire to make Aguata Diocese one of the Dioceses to be reckoned with in the Church of Nigeria, Bishop Ezeofor has constructed an Ultra modern Secretariat in Ekwulobia which has been dedicated to the glory of God. Another Project that has also been completed and dedicated by Bishop Ezeofor is the Gosife Micro finance Bank at Ekwulobia which will soon open it’s doors to be receiving customers for business transactions.
There are concrete plans to commence work at the Aguata Diocesan conference and retreat center at Ndikelionwu, while a new building for the Aguata Diocesan printing press is currently under construction at Oko to give the outfit a face lift.
Bishop Ezeofor who is also the National Chairman of Evangelical fellowship in the Anglican Communion, EFAC Nigeria has introduced series of Ecumenical programme for the spiritual growth of the faithful. They include Worship and Word conference, Fresh grace from Above, Aguata Night of Glory, single and sensible for the Youths among others.
The president of Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry Mrs Chinyere Hulder Ezeofor (Nnechukwunyere), the clergy, their wives and the Laity in Aguata Diocese should be commended for their support to the Diocesan Bishop. All that is needed is their continued support to enable Bishop Ezeofor achieve more of his vision and mission in Aguata Diocese.
This will be the second time Nanka community, a community that embraced Christianity in 1915, is hosting Aguata Diocesan Synod since the creation of the Diocese on September 4 2005. The first was in 2011.
Nanka Anglican Community which is the home of a one time Dean church of Nigeria, pioneer Archbishop of the defunct Province two and Bishop on the Niger, Most Reverend Jonathan Arinzechukwu Onyemelukwe of the blessed memory is made up of six churches. Saint James which became an Archdeaconry headquarters in 2010, Saint Matthew, Saint Andrews, Saints Peter and Paul, Saint Faith and Immanuel Church.
So as Nanka Community hosts the second session of the sixth synod of Aguata Diocese, the Archdeacon of Nanka Archdeaconry, Venerable Basil Ndupu, members of the planning committee led by Sir Emma Izuehie have opened their arms to receive Diocesan officials, and delegates.
