Eulogies were delivered by family members, Church members, friends and well-wishers, as the late Mrs. Bessie Okonkwo was laid to rest at her home in Enugu village, Ugbenu, Awka North Council Area.
The late Mrs. Okonkwo, fondly known as ‘‘Ada Jesus’’, was a co-founder of the Christ Deliverance Evangelical Mission Ministry with her husband, and mother of Mr. Emmanuel Okonkwo, a staff of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Awka.
She was said to have touched the lives of every member of her family and community with humility and immense love.
During her burial service, Pastor Francis Uzoukwu, whose sermon centred on blessed hope, said despite worldly things, the most important thing is the assurance of eternal life, and urged Christians to live good life in order to earn it.
Commiserating with the bereaved family, the ABS family led by the Acting Managing Director of the establishment, Mr. Gab Okpaleze, represented by Deputy Director News and Current Affairs, Mrs. Chinyelu Obiejesi, charged the family to imbibe and sustain their late mother’s legacies, praying God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
In their remarks, husband to the deceased, Pastor Aloysius Okonkwo and her first daughter, Mrs. Blessing Nwafor, thanked God for their wife and mother’s life well spent, describing her as good, disciplined, peaceful and role model, assuring that they will never depart from the legacies she left.
On his part, Mr. Emmanuel Okonkwo of the ABS, while thanking all who came to commiserate with his family, stated that his mother was a calm and humble woman, as well as devout Christian until her death, thanking God for the good life she lived.
He urged the state government to give Ugbenu community a sense of belonging by constructing good roads and bringing infrastructural development to the community.
Elder sister to the deceased, Mrs. Justina Chioke, Pastor Abuchi Nwankwo, as well as Pastor Felix Ekeh said the late Mrs. Okonkwo lived an exemplary Christian life, and was a good example of a leader who shows compassion to all.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State chapter, led by the Chairman, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, and the ABS Elite Brothers, among others, paid condolence visit to the Okonkwo family.
The late Mrs. Bessie Okonkwo, who died at the age of sixty-two after a brief illness, was survived by her husband, ten children and ten grandchildren.
