The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor has called on Christians to renew efforts in emulating Jesus Christ in their daily lives, especially by being holy.
Bishop Ezeokafor, who made the call in his homily at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Awka, during the 2021 Chrism Mass, ahead of the Easter celebration, urged the Catholic faithful to commit to a holy life by receiving sacraments of Eucharist and Penance.
Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha reports that Chrism Mass normally comes on Holy Thursday before Easter where three special oils are blessed, Chrism, the oil of catechumens and oil of the sick that will be used in the new year of the church calendar.
During the Chrism Mass, which is also known as Cathedraticum, parishes under the Cathedral and or diocese equip the bishop with items like food stuff with which to run the episcopal year.
Bishop Ezeokafor praised the commitment of Parishioners to the welfare of the clergy, urging them to sustain it, as well as prayers for more exploits in the Lord’s vineyard.
The Bishop thanked God for the peaceful conduct of the 2021 Anambra governorship election, which produced Professor Chukwuma Soludo, urging all to give the Governor all necessary support to provide good governance for the citizens.
He condemned the marginalization of Igbos in the nation’s affairs, especially in getting the opportunity to be the President of the country, insisting that Igbos have all it takes to take Nigeria to enviable heights.
On agitations and insecurity in the South-East zone, Bishop Ezeokafor commended Governor Soludo’s approach to the issues, calling on genuine agitators to take advantage of the committee set up by the Governor to address the challenges to save the economy and education of the zone.
The Chrism mass, which, among other things, offers Priests the opportunity to renew commitment to oaths taken during ordination before the Church, was attended by the clergy, Catholic faithful from different parishes in the Diocese, including the former Anambra state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Uju Nworgu.
