It was indeed a celebration and praises to God as Girls Secondary School Awka, dedicated the newly constructed school chapel.
The dedication of the chapel called’ Chapel of Light’, was performed by the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim.
Correspondent Theophilus Ukoha reports that speaking during the dedication service, Most Reverend Ibezim said the chapel should be regarded as a place of refuge and where one runs to in times of difficulty and supplicate to God for deliverance and reminded Christians that the Lord never abandon his people no matter the circumstance.
In a welcome address, the principal of the school, Lady Winifred Ibezim, recalled that the school which was founded in 1976 by the Anglican faithful has witnessed God’s abundant grace and blessings hence was able to overcome obstacles and challenges and recorded many achievements resulting in winning laurels in external competitions, sustained academic excellence and discipline.
She however thanked all those who contributed in one way or the other to actualization of the chapel project.
In their respective speeches, the chairman Post primary schools service commission, lady Ify Okaro, Dame Eunice Mesigo, the clerical synod Secretary of Awka Diocese Venerable Clement Mgbemena Reverend Humphrey Emusi, Chapel Chaplain, expressed joy for the memorable event praying that the light from the chapel of light will continue to shine in every individual lives unendingly.
Later Sir Charles Ezeagba, Deputy Registrar Diocese of Awka Anglican communion presented the Deed of Dedication.
Also in attendance were lady Pat offia member Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, Zonal Director of Education Lady Anthonia Agudosi, Lady Ngozi Agbasimelo, Lady Chidi Okafor former principal of the school, Sir James Ezeume, chairman school management committee among others.
Award of scholarship to Miss Esther Ajaero a member of school band group by Archbishop Ibezim, presentation of gifts to some individuals and music renditions climaxed the ceremony.
