The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Anambra State Command has flagged off this year’s ember months safety campaign in Onitsha with a call on road users to adhere strictly to road safety rules and regulations.

 

Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that this year’s safety campaign, which has its theme as, “Maintain Safe Speed, Avoid Night Travels and Enjoy Quality Road Experience” was aimed at sensitizing drivers and critical stakeholders in the transport sector on the need to abide by road safety laws to minimize road crashes this season and beyond.

Inaugurating the exercise, Governor Willie Obiano represented by the state Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Emma Ude-akpeh while describing this year’s theme as apt, commended the agency on its efforts in ensuring safety on all roads, and urged them to serve Ndi Anambra better this season.

 

Governor Obiano assured the agency of the state government’s support at all times, and encouraged people of the state to always cooperate with the agency for the safety of all.

 

In his speech, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi represented by the FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer, Zone 5 Headquarters Benin, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi identified over speeding as the major cause of road crash, and warned road users against the act and other practices, which could lead to road crash.

Earlier in an address, the Anambra State Sector Commander, FRSC, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi while explaining a safe speed as one, that is less than the maximum at which motorists can effectively control to avoid collision or danger, listed safety of life, fostering of healthier communities, among others, as benefits of obeying safety rules, assuring that the state command of the FRSC will do its best to ensure safety across the state roads this Yuletide.

 

The event attracted officers and men of the FRSC, Special Marshals of the command, managers of all transport companies in the state, among others.
