Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Chris Owolabi has confirmed that police operatives successfully repelled the attack on ‘B’ Division and the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC by armed hoodlums on Sunday, 23rd of May 2021.

 

CP Owolabi stated this in Awka while addressing news men at INEC Headquarter in Awka.

 

according  to CP Owolabi, although the charge room of Police ‘B’ Division and some INEC facilities were burnt, the hoodlums recorded great casualties.

The Commissioner further stated that investigations are still ongoing to enable them apprehend the injured ones but assured Ndi Anambra of improved security system even as he maintained that no life was lost on part of the police personnel.

 

He enjoined the public to provide the police with necessary information that will help their operation, especially when there is suspected movement within their area.

 

The CP further said that more information will be made available to the public on the development as the investigation continues, and commended his men for their alertness.

 

CP Owolabi assured that the state security operatives including the military, DSS among others are ever ready to ensure a safe and secure Anambra and advised anyone involved in any form of criminality to retrace his or her steps as Anambra is not safe for them.

Also speaking, the Anambra state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, noted that the main building of INEC is safe adding that the part of the facility affected could be fixed easily.

 

Apart from seven operational vehicles, the stock and collation centers were gutted by fire as a result of the attack.

 

Also, no major casualty was recorded due to prompt response of the police operatives.

 

ABS observed that the hoodlums abandoned their vehicle in an attempt to escape.
