The Independent National Electoral Commission has been urged to ensure proper distribution of new polling units across the state to achieve the objectives of the initiative.

 

Speaking in Awka, the Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene said this would encourage the electorate to participate actively in elections.

Chief Okeke-Ogene while commending INEC for the Initiative, noted that it has brought polling units closer to the people and pointed out that voters have no more excuses and should now come out en-mass during elections to vote, to contribute towards free, fair and credible elections.

 

He called for enlightenment of the electorate on the civic responsibility of participating actively in choosing who is going to lead or represent them which he explained would encourage those holding public offices to remain accountable to the people.

 

Chief Okeke-Ogene urged INEC to take necessary measures to meet the expectations of Ndi Anambra in the coming Governorship election to consolidate on gains of democracy in the state.

 

Also speaking, the State Vice Chairman of APGA, Anambra Central, Sir Theophine Nnoli said increase  in polling units will go a long way in ensuring mass participation of people in the voting process as the challenge of walking long distances in order to vote had been eliminated.

 

Sir Theophine noted that Anambra state has high voting capacity which has not been reflected so far in previous elections because according to him,  many people do not come out to vote.

 

He urged INEC to use the number of registered voters in various parts of the state as guide in the distribution of new polling units to ensure that areas with large number of voters have more units.
