The Management and Staff of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, has paid last respect to their late Chief Medical Director, Dr. Basil Nwankwo.
The event which held at the hospital premises attracted family and friends, as well as government officials.
Health Correspondent, Chibuzor Okoye attended the event and reports that the early morning rain could not deter the management and staff of the hospital who were adorned with black clothes and candles to mourn the man they referred as Chief and father to all.
Speaking during the service to mourn the late CMD, the Anambra state Commissioner for health, Dr. Vincent Okpala said that the State government is saddened over the untimely death of Dr. Nwankwo whom he said brought tremendous infrastructural and human developments to the hospital.
According to the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Josephat Akabuike, his late predecessor was a gentleman to the core and prayed God to grant his immediate and extended families the fortitude to bear the loss.
Earlier in a sermon, the Chaplain, Divine Mercy Catholic Chaplaincy of the hospital, Reverend Father Justin Ezechukwu who described the late CMD as a dedicated Christian, prayed God to forgive his sins and grant his soul eternal mercy.
Dr. Basil Nwankwo from Akwa Village, Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area, was appointed CMD of the hospital on 4th August 2017 & died on 9th March, 2021.
A burial hymn by the choir was the climax of the event.
