The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, yesterday backed Heads of Security agencies invited to brief the Senate on the insecurity ravaging the country.

The Senate president, who pre-empted the proceedings, told a shocked chamber that limited resources and inadequate funding are responsible for the inability of the country’s armed forces to win the war against insurgency in the north east.

Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja bureau reports that Senator Lawan disclosed this before the Red Chamber went into a closed-door session with the Service Chiefs and other Heads of Security agencies.

He said that at the end of the session, the Senate will find a way to provide what the armed forces need.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed had revealed that the government had in 2019, budgeted seventy five billion naira for operation Lafiya Dole but it ended up spending eighty-two-point-six-one billion naira.

This according to her represented one hundred and ten percent of the earlier approved budget for the military, even as she added that, so far, the government has spent up to   trillion naira in prosecuting the war against insecurity in the north east.
