Governor Willie Obiano has assured of continued investments in sports development in Anambra State.

 

He gave the assurance during an inspection visit to the Awka City Stadium still under construction.

 

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that  Governor Obiano who stressed that the contractor was chosen because of the quality work he has done in other places and recommendation by the Nigeria Football Federation urged him to ensure to deliver as promised noting that he will not relent in investing in the sports sector.

The Chairman Anambra State Sports Development Commission Mr. Tony Oli noted that the state had done well in sports development, reiterating that when completed, the stadium will help groom talents that will grow into representing the State and country at large.

 

He explained that for Governor Obiano to have sponsored the project to get to its present stage after six months of commencement, shows that he is committed to completing the project.

 

Conducting the team round the facility, the contractor handling the project, Mr Ebi Egbe assured of delivering the project in two months time.

Mr  Egbe  as Engineer who is FIFA certified contractor explained that work on the stadium is nearing completion, pointing out that turf grass for the pitch is FIFA standards and one hundred percent organic.

 

The Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honorable Uche Okafor, commended the Governor for embarking on the project.

 

The Governor’s Wife Dr Ebelechukwu, Anambra State Head of Service, Mr Harry Uduh, Permanent Secretaries and other top government functionaries, accompanied Governor Obiano on the inspection tour.
