Anambra State Library Board joined the rest of the International Community to celebrate the African World Heritage Day.

The celebration which took place at Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area drew students from communities around the area.

The event also availed the students the opportunity to participate in cultural activities in order to gain more knowledge about their immediate environment and develop more interest in culture and tradition of their people.

Correspondent, Amarachukwu Okafor was there and reports that  African World Heritage Day is a day set aside by United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO to celebrate the cultural and natural heritage of Africa.

The Day declared by UNESCO in 2018 is also an opportunity for people around the world, and particularly Africans, to celebrate the continent’s unique cultural and natural heritage.

In her opening remarks, the Director, Anambra State Library Board, Dr. Nkechi Udeze said that the event aim is at making sure every child have knowledge of their culture and tradition which remains their identify, irrespective of their ambitious and status in life.

She urged parents to cultivate the habit of teaching their children Igbo language and culture as a way of promoting and safe guiding their heritage.

In their separate interviews, some staff of Anambra State Library Board, Mr Chinedu Dike and Mrs Ijeoma Udedike said culture should not be thrown away and further urged everyone to put in their best in sustainability of the African Culture.

Some students Comfort Nwadike and Chinedu Okeke while appreciating the Library Board for the exposure and opportunity availed to them, promised to transcend the knowledge to friends and pairs at their individual localities.

The World Heritage Day 2021 had its theme as ‘Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures’.
