Catholic faithful in Anambra State have joined their counterparts to celebrate this year’s mothers’ day.

 

The day is set aside by the church to honour mothers for their selfless contributions to the growth of the church and society.

 

Correspondent, Emmanuel Chigbata reports that during a holy mass held in various Catholic Churches in the state in commemoration of the day, priests called on mothers to be good examples of motherhood in their homes and workplaces, as they are carriers of God’s image.

In a homily at the Annunciation Parish Church Amawbia, the Parish Priest, Reverend Father Victor Igwegbe, enjoined Christian mothers to reflect the image of Jesus Christ who came to redeem mankind from sins, calling on them to be peace loving and understanding women in their families.

 

Also at Saint Joseph’s Parish Maryland Estate Amawbia, Reverend Father Fabian Anumba, commended  women for their roles in the church and society and said the celebration is an opportunity for women to reflect upon their lives.

 

The Priest called on husbands to love and be source of strength to their wives, praying God to bless them

 

In her message, the President, Catholic Women Organization, Saint Joseph’s Parish Maryland Estate Amawbia, Mrs Chinwe Oficha, said mothers are the pillars of the nation who are working actively in the church and home, calling on mothers to be of good conduct in their various families.

The event which was colourful with mothers dressed in mothers’  organisation’s  uniform climaxed when special renditions and dance were held by women in the various churches.

 

The various masses featured bible reading by women, praises and thanksgiving sessions.

 

Meanwhile, the Vicar at the Anglican Church of the Holy Spirit, Paul University Awka, Venerable Rex Kanu,  has implored leaders of the nation to emulate the life of Christ whom God sent to protect and be shepherd of mankind, praying God to assist them in their leadership.
