The Light Givers Humanitarian Foundation has commenced a three Month Agricultural Empowerment Programme for Rural women.

The event which attracted over two hundred women is taking place at Saint Martin’s Catholic Church Ihiala.

Correspondent Emengini Osadebe who was there for the ABS reports that the women will be trained on how to improve on their farming system for improved yield and profit making in Agriculture.

Declaring the event open the Parish Priest of Saint Martin’s Catholic Church Ihiala represented by Reverend Father Christian Enemchukwu noted that the importance of Agriculture in the development of any nation cannot be over-emphasized, saying that choosing women for the empowerment is a step in the right direction.

In his speech Anambra State Commissioner for Agriculture Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba represented by the Head, Women in Agriculture, Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Patricia Uba stated that women and youth empowerment remains the top priority of the Obiano administration.

The Commissioner who commended the Founder, Light Givers Humanitarian Foundation for organizing the event pledged the Ministry’s readiness to render any necessary support they might require for the success of the training and empowerment.

On his part the Transition Committee Chairman for Ihiala Local Government Area, Mr Chukwudi Obiewulu who was represented by his wife Uche described the empowerment as the climax of all empowerments and challenged the women to practice what they will be taught during the training.

Earlier in his address the Founder and Chairman Light Givers Humanitarian Foundation, Chief Stanley Obodoagwu revealed  that during the ninety days training programme, the women will be trained on how to cultivate and produce different farm produce.

One of the facilitators of the Foundation Comrade Keneth Chukwu and a trainer from the Agricultural Development Project Unit, Imo State Pastor Jude Uwakwe commended the turnout of the women.
