Anambra State Government has concluded plans to facilitate broadband infrastructure deployment and access across the State.

Addressing Newsmen at Amawbia, the Executive Chairman Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Mr Chike Maduekwe announced that Anambra State will host a virtual stakeholders forum soon.

Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that Mr Maduekwe said that Anambra State shares the vision of the National Broadband Plan, 2020 in a bid to promote digital economy in the State explaining that to encourage the Telcos to see Anambra as a viable destination, Governor Willie Obiano had announced a waiver for linear meter charges in the state, as a result of which many Telcos have sent in several proposals.

Mr  Maduekwe maintained that oxygen of digital economy is broadband, pointing out that any State that does not structure their economy in a way to encourage digital economy, is lagging behind.

While noting that themes such as the legal framework for deployment of broadband, he added that the virtual event will gather stakeholders in the digital economy, including the States that have commenced implementation, so that at the end of the day, Anambra will have garnered needed knowledge of the concept.

He emphasized that government hopes to ensure that the infrastructure for broadband is in place before the launch, to ensure balanced development of the State.

According to him, the event has the theme ‘Facilitating broadband access in Anambra State through a favourable right of way regime’ and has Governor Willie Obiano as the Chief Host, while the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El’Rufai, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, Counselor to the United Kingdom government, Mr Guy Harrison, among others, will participate.
