In commemoration of the 2021 International Women’s Day celebration, female officers from the various commands of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, NPF, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC and the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS, in Anambra State have shared different household items to patients at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.

According to the female officers, the gesture is in line with one of the cardinal ideas of the celebration, which challenges women across the world to be catalysts of social cohesion by giving voice to those whose voices are barely heard.

 

Correspondent, Daniel Ezeigwe reports that the International Women’s Day is held globally on the eight day of March every year.

 

The theme of the 2021 occasion is “Choose to Challenge”.

 

At the state-owned General Hospital, the female officers went round the wards and shared the items to each patient, as a way of reminding them that they were not alone in their difficult times.

Speaking to the ABS, the leader of the team and Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command of FRSC, Mrs Edor Florence, said that the women in uniform had decided to reach out to the patients as a way of sharing love, noting that the vulnerability of women in a today’s society called for a collective approach.

 

In their separate remarks, the Gender Desk Officer at the Anambra State Command of the NSCDC, Assistant Superintendent of Corps Sopuruchi Nwokojii as well as her colleague from the Nigerian Correctional Service, Assistant Superintendent of Corrections Chioma Nwobor, said that the gesture was remarkable, emphasizing that women must be protected and given an independent voice to steer their destinies.

Another member of the team and Officer Commanding, Open Registry, Department of Finance and Administration, Anambra State Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Gina Ugwu, noted that the celebration also highlights the  need to always protect the girl child in view of the many dangers  threatening  the female gender in today’s society.

 

The women also shared flyers to road users to educate them on road safety guidelines and caution.
