The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala has disclosed that a total of sixteen thousand four hundred persons in the state have been tested so far for COVID-19 since June last year.
Dr Okpala who made the disclosure during an interaction with ABS in Awka, also noted that the state government had also double up on awareness creation and risk communication to educate people, especially those at the grassroots, on the reality and dangers of the virus.
Correspondent, Daniel Ezeigwe reports that from the early days of COVID-19 in Nigeria, to when the index case was recorded in Anambra State mid last year, the state government had mapped out series of policies to tackle the deadly virus and contained its carnage in the state.
One of such policies is what the Commissioner for Health, Dr Okpala, described as the three “Ts” — Tracing, Testing and Treatment.
Explaining further, Dr Okpala noted that it was important that everyone gets tested, with the government already making the testing free of charge, and added that early testing and detection are what make the difference.
The Health Commissioner also urged health care providers to treat malaria symptoms as COVID-19 until tests prove otherwise, explaining that both aliments share similar symptoms like fever and headache.
He further appealed to religious heads to bar anyone who fails to put on their facemasks, and properly too , from entering church buildings as well as to limit the number of worshippers to the mandated number of fifty.
