In line with international best practices, the State Auditor General,Mr Alexander Onwuli has given a rundown of report for the 2019 Anambra State Financial Fiscal year.

Mr Onwuli gave the report during an audit forum which took place in Awka .

The audit forum which was powered by the office of the Auditor General in collaboration with the State and Local Governance Reform, SLOGO Project was themed ‘Accountable service delivery: improving public accountability through International public sector accounting standards IPSAS-issues and challenges was attended by ministries, departments and agencies including the media and religious leaders.

The Auditor General, Mr. Onwuli said the programm was in fulfillment of his promise to present reports of each year for deliberations, comments, observations and possible suggestions .

He applauded Governor Willie Obiano for approving the hosting of the event advising the participants as they bring their knowledge and experience to bare, that it should be geared towards the overall interest and wellbeing of the state.

The Commissioner For Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners, Mr. Mark Okoye represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Dan Ezeanwu, the present administration has continued to run an open and transparent government thereby carrying stakeholders and citizens along and as well developing all sectors of the state economy simultaneously.

In an address of welcome, the acting Project Coordinator, Anambra State and Local Governance Reform, Mrs. Ifeoma Ezedebego said the forum was to explain to stakeholders how the state resources were raised as well as utilized for the period under review and to educate public officers on the need for them to be accountable in the management of public financial resources.

In their separate speeches, the Chairman State Civil Society Network and Co-chair, Open Government Partnership, Prince Chris Azor and the State Chairman of ANAN ,Mrs Nkechi Ofoedu said what they clamour for is transparency and accountability on public finance management, stating that Auditor General’s report is very key in budget process and implementations.

In a paper presentation on key issues in implementing the international public sector accounting standards, IPSAS ,Mr Daniel Obi stressed the need for the development of unified accounting standards.
