A three day training of health workers on natural family planning has commenced in Awka, Anambra state.

The event which held at the Anambra state Ministry of Health Conference Hall, Jerome Udorji Secretariat Awka attracted participants from the relevant agencies among others.

Addressing the participants, the Anambra state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okplala represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Linus Nwankwo said that the state government is determined to give residents of the state the best health care services at all times.

Dr. Okplala who urged the participants to take the workshop seriously, explained that natural family planning is good, safe and medically acceptable, urged concerned citizens to embrace it.

The Director of Public Health and Disease Control in the ministry, Dr. Uchechukwu Onyejimbe, equally described the workshop as timely, as he said it will help most families to plan well and charged the participants to ensure that the message gathered at the workshop gets to the grassroots.

Earlier, the anchor person of the programme, Mrs Stella Ekweozor, a deputy director in the ministry said that Anambra state is the first state in Nigeria to roll out natural family planning which he said is modern and scientific and revealed that they have a complete set of family planning.

A public health physician, Dr. Emmanuel Okechukwu delivered lecture on fertility awareness.

The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Heath Care Development Agency, Dr. Chioma Ezenyumulu was represented at the training by Dr. Nnamdi Uliagbafusi at the event.
