The Anambra State Police Command has paraded fourteen male suspects who are engaged in illegal revenue collection and armed robbery in different parts of Onitsha.

The suspects who were paraded at the Police Area Command Headquarters, Onitsha, were arrested in separate raids by the command’s patrol team.

Among the fourteen suspects were two teenagers, who were arrested separately at Nkpor Junction and Awada Obosi while robbing people of their belongings with a toy gun at night.

Twelve other suspects were apprehended at Upper Iweka axis and Owerri Road where they were collecting unauthorized revenues from traders and vehicle owners.

The arrest of the illegal revenue collectors, according to the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Haruna Muhammed, who spoke on behalf of the state Police Commissioner, Mr John Abang, is line with the directive issued by Governor Willie Obiano, to rid the state of miscreants who commit crimes in the guise of revenue collection.

Mr Abang also noted that the command is battle ready to tackle any form of criminal activity in the state, adding that those who do not have valid means of livelihood should figure out one and desist from crimes as the police is ever ready to deal with such people.

Some of the arrested suspects, including Ifeanyichukwu Ofole, from Obosi, Henry Nweze from Imo State, Ndubuisi Ikwuneme, from Aboh in Delta State and Friday Igwe from Ebony State, also gave their own versions of the alleged crimes.

The suspects, according to the Police Commissioner, would be charged to court for prosecution, after investigations.
