As the world marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities today, the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor says Anambra State legislature has since passed the Disability Rights Bill to integrate persons with disabilities into full activities in the state and improve their wellbeing.

In his goodwill message to mark the day, Right Honourable Okafor called on various governments and Houses of Assembly in the country to formulate policies and legislations aimed at providing a better life for persons with disabilities.

The speaker who extolled the wife of the Governor, Dr. Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano for using her pet project “Caring Family Enhancement Initiative“, CAFE, to improve the living standard of the disabled persons in the state, enjoined well-meaning citizens to commit part of their wealth to address the challenges facing people with disabilities in their localities.

Right Honourable Okafor, however urged people with disabilities to live above all forms of discrimination and stigmatization and utilize their God given talents in their various areas of specialization to improve their condition.

He called on private and public organizations to integrate people with disabilities in their scheme and provide an enabling environment for them in order to harness their potentials.
