Advent Sunday is the Christian’s New Year and a season which precedes Christmas.
Christians use the period to take stock of their activities in the previous year, make amends where necessary and forge ahead for the new season.

Reacting to the significance of the day, the Administrator, Anglican Diocese Of Awka, Venerable Dr Rex Kanu thanked God for another season noting that it reminds Christians of the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Venerable Kanu noted that it is expected of all Christians to vigilant and wait for the second coming of Christ so as to be among those that will inherit the kingdom of God as he is coming to judge, take the righteous and condemned those who are unrighteous.

He encouraged all to pray for the nation as the season calls for prayer noting that with fervent prayers, the country will surmount the economic recession and effects of COVID-19.

The Parish Priest Of Madonna Catholic Church, Agulu, Reverend Father Nicholas Okekeocha said that the season calls for sober reflection and spiritual preparation to receive Christ who is the king of all.

Reverend Father Okekeocha noted that those who solely believe in Christ will be liberated from all challenges of life and every dark areas of their lives will be sanctified and filled with God’s love.

Several mass and services will be held today in both Catholic, Anglican, Presbyterian and Methodist churches to mark the day.
