International year of the girl chid is a day set aside to celebrate the importance, worth and potential of girl children around the world.
The day is observed on the 11th of October of every year. It is also a day to highlight girls’ needs and the problems they face in life.
The aim of the Girl Child is also to stop Rape, early marriage, depriving them of education and lots more.
It also allows girls to speak up everyday and anytime, letting them know that they are enough and can do more irrespective of gender.
This celebration also notifies mothers and parents, the government and the society that they can do more for female children such as give them more time and ears, engaging them in discussions, sex education, and properly educating them on violence against women while helping them grow their confidence and self esteem among others.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “My voice, our equal future”.
