Anambra state government through the Ministry of Agriculture has fumigated the four point five hectares of land of the Amansea Livestock Market, using the modern modular motorized fumigation machine.
The exercise was in line with the effort of the state government to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba, highlighted the importance of the exercise, noting that similar exercise will be carried out across the livestock markets within the state twice every week for the next three months.
He stressed that the continuous increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state has given rise to more drastic measures by the state government.
Mr. Onukwuba noted that as the health workers and the government are doing all that is necessary to ensure the safety of all the residents of Anambra state, it is vital that individuals, corporate bodies, market leaders, security agencies among others, play their roles.
Also speaking , the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Agric Exports, Dr Okey Okwuosa who is also the Leader of the fumigation team, lauded the corporation of the Hausa and Fulani communities.
He assured that the directive to fumigate the market alongside other livestock markets across the state twice a week for the next three months will be diligently carried out.
Responding, the Leader of the Fulani Community in Anambra state, Mr. Gidado Siddiki and the Vice Chairman, Amansea Cattle market, Mr. Mohammed Idris, while commending the state government for it’s effort in combating the virus pledged to do their bit in curbing the spread of the deadly virus.
They urged both Hausa and Fulani communities in the state to always observe all the COVID-19 preventive protocols and also remain law abiding.
