The First Nigerian Professor of Statistics, James Nwoye Adichie has gone the way of all mortals.

He died on Wednesday, 10th June 2020.

Professor Adichie, who hails from Abba, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, was the father of Award-winning writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Aged eighty-eight, Professor Adichie, according to official statement by Chuks Adichie, on behalf of the family, received his PhD in statistics from Berkeley and went on to become Nigeria’s first professor of statistics.

Correspondent Joseph Egbeocha reports that upon his retirement, he lived in his hometown, Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, where he held the prestigious traditional title of Odelora Abba.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Grace Ifeoma Adichie, their six children, Ijeoma, Uchenna, Chuks, Okechukwu, Chimamanda and Kenechukwu, as well as nine grandchildren, in-laws and many relatives.

Professor Adichie’s funeral arrangements, according to the statement, will be announced in due course.
