A case has been made for concerted efforts in ensuring total elimination of all forms of racial discrimination across Nations.


Respondents, who made the call while speaking on this year’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, maintained that the practice has continued to abet inequality, poverty, social exclusion and violent conflicts.



In a video released ahead of the global event, Anambra-born award winning writer, Chimamanda Adichie, called for concerted efforts in the fight against racial discrimination.


Messrs Aloysius Nwafor, Shedrack Igweze and Chekwube Omabu, agreed that, though there are extant laws discouraging racial discrimination, the practice still exists across nations.


The South East Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association and Leader of Fulani Community in Anambra State, Alhaji Giddado Sadiq, who appreciated Governor Willie Obiano for appointing a Northerner in his cabinet, said such schemes as the National Youths Service Corps, is a veritable platform to ensuring unity amongst Nigerians.


Some officials of the Anambra State Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism said racial discrimination manifest when people see themselves as superior to others.


They explained that the Anambra State government, through the Ministry, is championing the interest of Ndi-Anambra living in the diaspora.


It was gathered that this year’s Commemorative Meeting on the event by the United Nations was postponed to minimize the transmission of Corona-virus.


Recall that sixty-nine peaceful protesters lost their lives Sixty years ago in the Sharpeville Massacre while advocating an end to Apartheid in South Africa, prompting the United Nations General Assembly to proclaim twenty-first March as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
