A world class innovation hub will be established at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.
The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, disclosed this during a convocatio lecture, held at the auditorium of the University.
Education correspondent Theophilus Ukoha reports that Alhaji Rasheed who was the Chairman of the convocation lecture, said with the crop of youths and intellectuals being churned out by the Institution, the commission deemed it necessary to establish without delay, a world class innovation hub to help prepare youths for meaningful economic development.
He observed that the Nnamdi Azikiwe University has in recent times performed creditably in churning out graduates with quality character and learning.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Charles Esimone, said he is optimistic to transform the institution to be among the first two hundred best in the world and the best in Nigeria.
The guest lecturer Professor Benedict Oramah,in a lecture titled,”Unleashing the Power of the Youths”, said the society and the world population over time has shown that youths have always been the catalyst for economic transformation.
Professor Oramah who is the President and Chairman of African Export-Import Bank, challenged African leaders to support the growing and innovative youths entrepreneurs with leadership development opportunities, Finance and links to wider markets.
He also urged the youths to realize that they also need to work hard to acquire the skills that are required for economic development.
