For the people at the upland now is the period of dry season while for the riverine communities it is the peak of farming season .Staff Reporter Blessing Ijedibia who was at Anam area in Anambra West Council Area observed that farm crops are at different stages of growth.

A visit to some farms newly cultivated in the area , It was observed that some crops like cassava ,,melon and potatoes are at different stages of germination .Some of the farms have ridges for yam while the farmers have mounted sticks in readiness for staking the yam tendrils when they germinate .

ABS news met some of the farmers at the market including Peter Obi who said they normally start early in to harvest early in order to avert possible flooding that occurs between July and August .He commended the state government efforts towards improving agriculture in the state but solicited for more interventions to enable farmers access loan directly from various facilities .

Also, another farmer, Mrs Ekene Augustine expressed satisfaction with government’s gesture in providing improved seeding for a bumper harvest.

Correspondent, Blessing Ijedibia, who was at Anam, Anambra West
council area reports that a visit to some newly cultivated farm lands
revealed that some crops like cassava, Melon and Potatoes are at
different stages of germination, while some of the farmlands have
ridges for yam with steaks.


A farmer, Mr. Peter Obi, said they normally start early to enable them
to harvest before flooding that occurs between July and August.


While appreciating the state government’s efforts in improving
agriculture, Mr. Obi called for measures to be put in place to enable
farmers access loan directly from the state government.
On her part, another farmer, Mrs. Ekene Augustine expressed gratitude
to government for providing improved seedlings for bumper harvest.
