Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano has charged journalists to always be accurate in their reportage by seeking clarification when in doubt instead of striving for cheap publicity.
Dr Mrs Obiano made the charge during the kick-off the 2019 Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council games which took place at the ABS Cooperate Headquarters in Awka.
The tournament, which is an annual event, seeks to promote harmony journalists and set standard in line with the ideals of the profession.
According to Dr Mrs Obiano who is one of the major sponsors of the tournament, the sponsorship is a way of identifying with members of the union adding that the novelty match was one of the ways of keeping fit for a healthy life.
The governor’s wife who was represented by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Emeka Ozumba, commended the NUJ games and said that it was a good way for one to exercise to improve productivity.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Anambra State NUJ, Comrade Emma Ifesinachi, stated that since sports speaks uniformity, it has become an efficient strategy for building stronger partnership among media practitioners so as to enhance development in the union.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ABS, Chief Uche Nworah who will representing the station in table tennis category of the contest, affirmed that the aim of the game would be achieved with expected fair play, which is not a matter of eventual victory but in bringing all practitioners together.
Contributing, the Chairman 2019 Anambra State NUJ Games, Comrade Chukwuemeka Modilim and his Secretary Comrade Abuchi Onwumelu, commended their colleagues for the show of love in the tournament and opined that the essence of the game was also to harness talented individuals in different sporting areas, in preparation for national competitions and urged everyone to put in their best for the success of the game.
In the result of the Novelty Match between the male and female teams of the African union , the women football team showed tenacity with a three three draw, in a game that featured the likes of Chris Obileri of Purity FM, Joy Mbachi of News Agency of Nigeria, Tony Okafor of Punch Newspaper, Betty Onuchukwu of Correspondent Chapel and Blessing Uchendu who scored the equalizing goal for the women’s team.
