The Anambra State Commissioner of Police Mr John Abang has re-assured non-governmental organizations in the State of the support of the command during their sensitization programmes .


Mr Abang gave the assurance when members of the Rotary Club International Zones Seven and Eight paid him an advocacy visit in his office at the Command Headquarters Amawbia as part of activities lined up to mark the just concluded International Polio Day.


Mr Abang a Rotarian, who was during the event decorated for his humanitarian services and philanthropy expressed delight for being identified with the club and for being decorated, promised to continue with his humanitarian service.


Earlier in an address a two time past Assistant Governor of Rotary International District 9142 Professor Austin Nonyelu, harped on the need for a concerted effort in the fight against polio.


The University Teacher who noted that Nigeria has been certified polio free maintained that efforts are still needed to sustain the gains.


Professor Nonyelu commended the Police and other security agencies for their contributions and participation in the fight against polio saying that without their assistance it would have been a difficult task for them to reach the hinterlands.


In an interview, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Power, and Water Resources, Mr Victor Meju who is also a Rotarian commended the government efforts in the fight against polio whereby communities provide clean pipe borne water and good environment for themselves through the State government’s Community Choose Your Project initiative a platform he noted the government is using to reach the hinterlands.


He commended the Rotary International for its efforts in the fight against life threatening epidemics and massive role in reaching out to people in the rural areas by sensitizing them against polio.


A former Governor of Rotary International District 9142, Sir Chika Ekwueme, Assistant Governor Zone Seven, Professor Frank Colins Okafor and that of zone Eight Dr Dennis Ekemezie and President Rotary Club of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Chief Kanayochukwu Obidigbo were present during the event.
