Cancer Treatment centre will be established in Anambra State to arrest cancer related ailments.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala disclosed this while defending the 2020 budget estimate of the Ministry before the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Health in Awka.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that Dr Okpala described the centre for Cancer treatment as one the legacy projects of the Ministry for 2020 aimed at eradicating cancer in the state.
The Health Commissioner explained that with intervention funds from the Federal Government and the International Community, the ministry will get the secondary health care right, which will see Onitsha, Enugwu-Ukwu, Ekwulobia General Hospitals completed.
According to him, by the time the 2020 budget of the Ministry is implemented, there will be an improvement in facilities of all the primary health centres within the state and the people will feel the impact of the Ministry, especially in hard to reach areas.
On his part, the Chairman House Committee on Health, Dr Carter Umeh who noted that health is primary to the well being of the people, charged the Ministry of health to execute all the projects they captured in their 2020 budget estimate as his committee will embark on oversight visit to the project sites to see how funds approved for them was expended.
In his remark, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Chief Obinna Emeneka described budget defence of the Ministry of health as very satisfactory, expressing confidence that the Ministry under Dr. Okpala will reposition the health sector.
He also commended the Chief Medical Director, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, Dr. Basil Nwankwo who appeared with the key functionaries of the hospital before the committee for the transformation he has brought to the hospital.
