Governor Willie Obiano has inaugurated an Ultra-Modern Coscharis Farms Rice Processing Mill.


The Governor led others to inaugurate the mill at Igbariam in Anambra East Local Government Area.


The Mill which is a Public-Private-Partnership between the company and Anambra State government witnessed the presence of prominent individuals in Nigeria including Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, Governor of Central Bank, Dr Godwin Emiefele, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Sabo Nanono, represented by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Alhaji Mustapha Baba Shehiru.


Senator Victor Umeh, Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Uchenna Okafor, Former Governor, Dame Virgy Etiaba, Service Chiefs, traditional rulers led by Chairman of South East Traditional rulers’
council, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, among others attended the ceremony.


Inaugurating the project, Governor Obiano who said that the State has the capacity to feed the Nation, stressed that Coscharis farm is one of the early investors that heeded the aku luo uno call by his government, as the rice production capacity of the State has continued to increase, and presently increased to three hundred and forty-five thousand two hundred and eighty metric tons, as against the eighty thousand metric tons he met on assumption of office.


Governor Obiano who said that the State government has continuously formed strategic engagement of farmers in the State, pointed out that the State has since commenced year round planting in some areas of the State, adding that to meet its three year projection plan, there is need for more lands and out growers.

For the Governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Bagudu the investment has solved problems for millions of farmers in the state, as they have off take for production and better seedlings that will double their yield.



The Minister for agriculture and rural development, Alhaji Mustapha Baba Shehiru urged Nigerians and Ndi Anambra in particular to develop interest in rice production and processing, calling on other states to emulate Anambra in partnering the private sector.


The Governor of Central Bank, Dr Emefiele, commended Governor Obiano for creating the enabling environment for investments to thrive in the State, urging others to adopt same measures put in place by Anambra.


He said that in May 2015, the CBN released two billion naira to the farm, four billion naira in December 2015 as well as one billion naira in August 2019, out of which Coscharis farm had repaid over eight hundred million naira, despite last year’s flood, saying that such repayment commitment by Coscharis is commendable and encouraging, pledging commitment to partnering the private sector. UP ; Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba, stressed that the collaboration between the Anambra State government and investors is yielding results.


Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Farm, Dr Cosmas Maduka said that without the Governor’s support, especially in terms of adequate security, the farm would not have seen the light of the day.
