Public and private sectors implementing Water Sanitation and Hygiene activities have been charged to ensure proper coordination with Ministry of Water Resources for increased and improved access to safe water and excreta disposal facilities in their various localities.

The Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities Mr. Obi Nwankwo stated this during a two day Consultant Forum in Water Sanitation and Hygiene Sector Wide Approach ( WASH-SWAp ) organized by the Anambra State Government and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency RUWASSA in collaboration with European Union and UNICEF.

The two day Consultant Forum which has in attendance representatives of the key players in the WASH programme was strategized to explain to them the winding up of funding support by European Union in the WASH activities and articulate the gains recorded over the years and subject it to coordination Frame work that will help them continue the WASH programme .

Declaring the programme open, the Commissioner for Utility, Mr Obi Nwankwo appreciated EU- UNICEF interventions in the state WASH sector which he said has projected, promoted and integrated the vision and mission of the Governor Willie Obiano’s strategic roadmap for development in the Sector Wide Approach SWAp represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry Mr. Douglas Mba opined that SWAp when completed will be another WASH policy document that will position Anambra State to attract more support from donor agencies.

In his remarks the UNICEF Chief Field Officer Dr. Ibrahim Khalil-Conteh while applauding the suppoRyan of Governor Willie Obiano in the sector reform noted that more work is required to sustain the succb already recorded success.

Earlier in an overview of the SWAp, the National WASH-SWAp Consultant Mr. Roy Udoma-Egba revealed that the adoption and implementation of SWAp is to encourage programming that will align with emerging WASH issues as it will enhance quality service delivery.

Responding on behalf of participants, the P, ministry of Economic planning and Budget Mr. Leo Imoka thanked the EU-UNICEF for the initiative.
