The people and government of Anambra State have congratulated the traditional ruler of Onitsha and Chairman Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe on the conferment of Doctor of Science degree (Honoris Causa) on him today by the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka .
This was contained in a congratulatory message to Obi of Onitsha Igwe Achebe personally signed by Governor Willie Obiano.
In the message, Governor Obiano noted that the Obi of Onitsha is most accomplished former Director of Shell International and he is an alumnus of the highly prestigious Stanford University in California and Columbia University in New York City as well as the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos.
It futher stated that he has also been on the boards of several Nigerian and international organizations and that the preeminent monarch is famous for robust contributions to educational development in Nigeria adding that apart from promoting cooperation between American and Nigerian Universities, the Obi of Onitsha was Chancellor of Kogi State University and is currently Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
According to the message, Igwe Achebe has been rewarded with honorary doctoral degrees by the Anambra State University and the Kogi State University.
It stated that as Igwe Achebe is today conferred with the Doctor. Science degree (Honorary Causa) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, the government and people of Anambra State stand as one man in solidarity with him, saying that the cap truly fits him.
