Commissioner for Environment, Architect Michael Okonkwo, has reiterated the resolve of Governor Willie Obiano to bequeath a clean and healthy environment to Ndi Anambra.

Speaking on the ABS TV phone in programme – “Issues of the Moment”, Architect Okonkwo noted that Governor Obiano has instituted a new Agency that will be responsible for beautifying the state with parks and gardens to enhance the aesthetics of the environment.

He explained that waste management in the state has advanced from waste evacuation to a new approach of transforming waste to wealth adding that indiscriminate dumping of refuse, pouring of garbage in drainages when it rains and unauthorized structures that block the water ways are some actions that degrade the environment

The Environment Commissioner further announced that his Ministry will re-introduce environmental sanitation inspectors that will be going from house to house to ensure that people keep their homes and surroundings clean as it used to be in the years back.

Some callers on the programmes, including Mr. Chikwendu Uga from Onitsha, Romanus Eze form Igboetiti Local Government Area of Enugu state and Ify Okoye from Ogidi, noted that much is desired of the people to ensure that the environment is protected from degradation and degeneration because any form of environmental abuse affects the quality of life of the people and other living organisms that derive their substance from the ecosystem.
