Another feather of greatness has been added to the glowing cap of Governor Willie Obiano as the ancient Aguleri Kingdom conferred on him the Chieftaincy title of Ebubedike Aguleri.
The title was conferred on the Governor by the traditional ruler of Aguleri Kingdom, Igwe Christopher Idigo during the 118th Ovala Festival of the Idigo dynasty in Aguleri.
Amaigwe Aguleri, venue of the ceremony was filled to capacity as citizens and friends of Aguleri, converged to celebrate One of the oldest Aguleri traditions, Ovala during which the traditional ruler communes with his people and proclaims blessings to his people in the new year.
Among other dignitaries who were honored at the event alongside the Governor were the Wife of Late Biafran Leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, former National Secretary of APGA, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, the Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Joseph Ahaneku and many others.
The third appearance of Igwe Idigo accompanied by members of the Royal cabinet, had heralded the formal commencement of the Ovala festival.
Conferring the Chieftaincy title on the Governor, Igwe Idigo explained that although the community had recognized him in the past, the latest title was in recognition of the Governor’s outstanding performance in the governance of the state and his exploits that have brought honor to Aguleri Kingdom.
The Royal Father said as an ancient Igbo Kingdom, the Aguleri community will continue to uphold the rich Igbo cultural heritage and preserve it for the upcoming generation.
Responding after receiving the title, Governor Obiano expressed appreciation to the Aguleri Kingdom for the honor which he noted goes a long way to strengthen his belief that he has the solid support of his people in his efforts to transform the state.
The Governor said he is mindful of what the honor means and assured that he remains committed to his social contract with Ndi Anambra to make the state the true Light of the nation.
He further assured people of his community that under his watch, they will always have cause to celebrate and rejoice.
In an interview, the traditional ruler of Oraukwu, Igwe Emeka Onuorah acknowledged that Aguleri Kingdom has remained at the forefront of promoting Igbo culture and tradition and prayed God to grant Igwe Idigo more successful years on the throne.
Performances by various cultural troupes from within and outside the state as well as decoration of the title recipients formed the highpoints of the event.
