The Anambra State contingents to the National Youths Games taking place in Kwara State have promised to do the state proud by winning medals in all competition they feature.
This was the message during a brief departure ceremony for the contingents which includes coaches and participants held at the state Ministry of Sports office in Awka.
Just like sports itself, the atmosphere at the Ministry of Sports office in Awka was energetic and bubbling with excitement and enthusiasm among the athletes who have been chosen in keenly contested selection process for the annual sports event.
Addressing the contingents few minutes before their departure, the Commissioner for Youths, Entrepreneur and Sports Development, Dr. Uju Nworgu, charged the contingents to do the state proud as they did during the zonal screening exercise for team sports like Volleyball and Cricket where they emerged victorious to represent the state.
Dr. Nworgu encouraged the contingents to bring back “the medals” in all competition they feature in as their predecessors did and make the state live out its name as the light of the Nation, and thanked Governor Willie Obiano for adequately supporting the teams with training kits and logistics.
Some coaches who spoke to the ABS crew including, Mr. Jude Nwafor and Mrs. Stella Otti, noted that through their intense training and careful selection of participants, they are ready to face their would be opponents.
