International Beer Day was first celebrated in August, 2008. The day is a global celebration by beer lovers to show the importance of brewers and bartenders in the love shared with Beer.
Some Countries like Russia do not consider beer as alcohol and therefore does not place restrictions on it contrarily to Nigeria, where there exists mild restrictions as it pertains to its sale and promotions.
Statistics show that over three billion bottles of beer are consumed every year ,that is close to twenty bottles per person annually, which accounts for about six hundred billion naira raked in beer sales each year.
This startling statistics brings ABS team to ask some medical experts if the consumption of alcoholic contents still have any health implications.
In his response, a Hospital Administrator, Dr Richmond Achigbu warned that beer has serious negative health implications to the body organs especially the liver, the eyes and many others.
A medical laboratory Scientist at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Mr Emmanuel Okechukwu stated that there are no proven medical effects of beer, instead he enumerated some of the negative effects to include drastic reduction in life expectancy, high risk of cancer, infertility in women, and other social vices such as domestic violence and crime.
So before you take the next glass of beer consider its effect on your health.
