A two day workshop on Research Methodology is in progress at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, University, Igbariam Campus.
Declaring the workshop open, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Fidelis Okafor, decried that some Universities in the country still believe in only teaching, adding that the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University was among the Universities that believe in both teaching and quality research methodology.
The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences of the University, Professor Basil Nwankwo, maintained that the workshop was knowledge driven, calling on the participants to aim at attending international standards in their academic work.
He stressed that the workshop was designed to enhance the academic excellence and growth of the postgraduate students to enable them fit in anywhere they find themselves in the globe.
In an address of welcome, the Dean School of Post-Graduate Studies of the University, Professor Sunday Obikeze, described the theme of the workshop which was anchored on Research for National Development as apt, pointing out that the essence of tertiary education is to ensure quality research work that would guarantee the growth of the society.
In a lecture on “Designing and Implementing quality research”, a Professor in the Department of Language and Linguistics, Nassarawa State university, Keffi Gideon Omachonu, maintained that as far as research in academic intuitions in Nigeria was concerned, it is bedeviled with a lot of nagging problems such as poor funding, poor attitude and lack of necessary skills and general poor academic performance among others.
