The Igbo Civil Society Coalition says Governor Willie Obiano has systematically taken Anambra state to an enviable height in Nigeria.

The group made this known when they paid a courtesy call to the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Political Matters, Comrade Arinzechukwu.

The Igbo Civil Society Coalition is made up of the five Eastern States, including Rivers, Delta and Cross Rivers among others.

Speaking during the visit, the coordinator of the group who is also the Head, Department of Political Science, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Professor Obasi Igwe, said that their visit was necessitated by the recent events in the state and south east region that need clarifications, answers and solutions.

Professor Obasi listed some of the things to include the call by some groups in the region for the boycott of the forthcoming Anambra governorship poll, the ugly event that led to the death of some people on thirtieth may 2016 at Nkpor, Anambra state and made it clear that, Anambra remains the leading light in Igbo land and as such, must not be toyed with at anytime.

The coalition who commended Governor Obiano for his numerous works in the state, maintained that the stand of the coalition was that election must hold in Anambra state in the forthcoming governorship election for the state to continue to move forward.

The state chairman, Civil Society Network, Reverend Elvis Okolie, appealed to those calling for the boycott of Anambra election to retrace their step as it is an ill wind that blows no one any good.
The group equally absolved Governor Obiano of wrong doing in the incident that happened at Nkpor  last year.
Responding, Comrade Awogu who thanked the group for coming as well as their interest in moving the south east region forward revealed that Governor Obiano is a man who has the interest of Ndigbo at heart and will do all within his powers to safeguard the lives and properties of Ndigbo.

Comrade Awogu later received the people of Okpoko Community in Ogbaru local government area, led by their President-General, Mr. Edwin Emesinwa who came to his office to  declare their unalloyed support to the Obiano administration as well as thank the Governor and comrade Awogu for restoring peace and unity in their community.

Welcoming them, Comrade Awogu urged them to remain peaceful and keep working towards the actualization of  the Governor’s  second term  bid.
