Boosting the economic base of Igboland tops discussions at the tenth Dr F.C. Ogbalu memorial lecture.

The event which was held at  Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka attracted major pan- Igbo groups in the country and senior members of the academic community.

Dr F. C Ogbalu memorial lecture series is an annual event that brings to the front burner issues that affect the socio-political, and economic growth of Igbo people, as well as their language and culture which were the ideals promoted by late Dr Ogbalu through his Otu nkwalite Asusu na Omenala Igbo or Society for the Promotion of Igbo Language and Culture in English.
Governor Willie Obiano represented by the Commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Ogbuefi Tony Nnacheta commended the organizers of the event, stating that his government has promoted Igbo language education through many of its policies in schools including giving special  incentives to Igbo language teachers.

The Vice Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Joseph Ahaneku enumerated the successes made by the school in promoting Igbo Language education and called on Igbo’s to go back to the core areas which they were known for.
In a paper entitled in Igbo “Onodu Ndi Igbo na ndoro ndoro ochichi Naijiria malite n’afo 1966 ruo Ugbua” The guest lecturer, Professor Monday Onukawa, from Abia State University Uturu traced the marginalization experienced by the Igbos in the Nigerian government since the end of the civil war and noted that the solution lies in the hands of the igbos to take up the challenge and develop their land by themselves.

On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Interparty affairs, who was also the Chairman on the occasion, Chief Ben Obi called on Ndi Igbo to take the development of their land seriously while urging the younger generation to become responsible players in the political events of the country.
